Would this be a good linux distro?
My Linux Distro will be based on openSUSE 11.3 and use GNOME 2.30 because it is more user friendly than KDE. It will also include an awesome theme. I know what needs fixing such as usability, stability. I also need some ideas for my software selection. They must be available in an .rpm format.
It is developed by Dillsoft (Who I own). It’s name is Dillsoft Ice One.
It is for general users (Like ubuntu, windows is).

Sounds decent enough so far (though i’m more a fan of debain based distros with KDE4.x than anything else). As far as packages go i guess it depends on what level of developer you are. Can you make your own software or are you mixing up whats already out there into one nice OS. If you’re only going to use preprogrammed software then the basics are nice, open office, gimp, VLC, amarok (if it’s not kde only), pidgin, opera 10.6, synaptec package manager, wireshark, and/or likewise (for active directory integration) would be nice, to name a few.
If you’re making your own software then i suggest making a better on screen keyboard (gnome’s i don’t much care for), an email client that can connect to MS exchange would be really great! also a way to roll back packages and updates would be really nice. also it would be a good idea to have a lightweight back up interface along side gnome in case the user or an update screws up the desktop manager/window manager etc. I know you want to go with gnome but an option of KDE would be really great too. also one thing you might want to think about (which is why i like debian so much) is support for many different package types (if you can help it) this way you software library is instantly huge!!
as far as your theme, with a name like ice one (cool name by the way) you should run with it and do foggy opaque transparency for your windows boarders, menus, widgets (if you use them) and anything else that might look good with it. and then a deep blue or black background with a really nice logo on it. this way you get a nice contrast.
I hope this helps, and please let me know if you want any more opinions or have any other questions. I’ve actually been thinking about doing the same kind of thing for a while now but don’t have the time or umph to go it alone.
Very happy to help!
