I’m basically doin some server work first time. I’m connecting to my server via ssh command, and i have wordpress zipfile on my desktop which i wanted to copy to /var/www. My problem is how do i use the cp command to copy it into /var/www from the Desktop of the pc im working under, i know basic cp commands but this has me confused.

Can anyone help, ten points best answer. Im on linux by the way

Ok so I’m pretty decent with computers but a complete newbie when it comes to linux. The situation this guy has in the link below is exactly my problem (even the same laptop) but i dont really understand his solution lol. so if you could kind of dumb it down and explain it to me in a more newbie-friendly way it would be greatly appreciated and of course 10 pts. well , i am realtivly new to linux ( ubuntu , knoppix )
im going to be going to college soon , and im wondering what sort of jobs would i look at that could require me to use linux ?
i currently know html and am pretty fluent with html , wordpress and style sheets
im working on learning php , and i know a very little amount of python ( basically nothing)
so i guess what im wondering is how do i further my knowledge from just using the os ( i know some things like using terminal , , gedit , sudo …small stuff like that)
but i want to focus my trainign to a specific job soon , and any studies i can do on my own are only going to help me
the reason i was thinking linux , is mainly beacause linux seems like an os that you can really learn … you can "get your hands dirty" in the actual os
but , if you think i would be able to have a more succesfull career with windows then please say so

and what are some future computer related jobs that are going to be in high demand ?

I contacted my webhost to find out on whether i can run WordPress?

I’m an absolute beginner. I want to be able to keep my site fresh and up to date with articles and images. And i’m assuming wordpress can get the job done. The thing is my site was developed using xhtml and css. How can i integrate WordPress for this site.

This is what i sent to my webhost (got this from the wordpress.org website).

I’m interested in running the open-source WordPress blogging software and I was wondering if my (www.energyworkforce.net) supported the following:

* PHP 4.3 or greater
* MySQL 4.0 or greater
* The mod_rewrite Apache module

And this is the reply i got from my webhost…

hosted under Windows Platform. It support PHP, MySQL but do not support for mod_rewrite Apache module. You might need to transfer to linux Platform.

Now what do i do? What is this mod_rewrite Apache module. What does it do? And whawwt is my next plan? Do i move to a Linux Platform as advised or can i still use WordPress with the Windows platform.

I know i’ve asked alot. Thanking you all in advanced.

I have used Qumana as my blogging software for months now. It is really easy to use and, other than not allowing me to add new categories to my WordPress blog, I am very happy with it. However, I just switched to Linux on my main computer and found out that Qumana doesn't have a Linux version yet.

Does anybody know of a good blogging client for Linux that has both a WYSIWYG and source editor and works on at least Blogger and WordPress (and preferrably MySpace and WritingUp as well), or does anybody have any knowledge of when Qumana will be ported to Linux?

I tried the BottomLine one, but couldn't figure out how to use it. The other one says it is having problems with Blogger right now.

Running Redhat server 5 and MySQL. For some reason I am getting this message and I've used PHPMyAdmin to setup a new user account with a database and provided that informaton in the config file for wordpress. Any ideas why this isn't working?
