Windows Vista and SuSE Linux Dual Boot?
Hello,
I have Windows vista installed on my laptop. I have some free space to install SuSE Linux 10,
I’ve done a dual boot configuration before but the problem is that the linux GURB boot loader become the machine default loader and when I for any reason decide to to delete the linux I’ll lose my windows , is there ant way I can install SuSE Linux without changing the boot order? I mean that the windows boot first with an option to pick the Linux like installing Vista and Xp as dual boot.
Thanks

Try installing SuSE first, then install Vista. Vista’s bootloader should detect SuSE and let you dual-boot.
I’ve never tried to dual boot with vista but if it is anything like XP you shouldn’t have a problem. First don’t install windows after Linux because the Windows bootloader won’t see your Linux partition so you won’t be able to use it. If you decide to delete your Linux partition what you must do before you reboot after deleting your linux partition is go to the run dialog in windows and run the command fixmbr.
This will remove the Linux boot loader and the next time you boot you will get windows, make sure you delete the linux partition within the session (before reboot) otherwise you’ll have trouble finding the Linux partition to be able to reformat. It is possible to install a Windows bootloader such as bootmagic but grub is easier to use.
