Linux reviews applications open source from SUSE Mandrake Mandriva Centos Redhat Debian and more
I WAS A WINDOWS USER TILL RECENT TIMES,
windows-
its easy(main motive behind development)
but its unstable(crashes, viruses etc are conmmon)
linux-
was commandline(like dos)until recent times but now is as graphical as it can get)
it give all neccessary free softwares that one might use along with the CD
ok heres the resaon for slow pace of growth
-Windows is popular(people automatically install it when u buy)
-linux is feard as a tuff operating system(which is not true)
-people think u wont get professional support(not true .try free forums or get help from companies like rehat, mandriva)
-people think linux is for programmers.(not true it is a much safer and cheaper alternative for home users)
-GUI-graphical user inerface is present in linux.people fail to realise this
-"instaling linux is tuff" is a every wrong but popular belief.i switched to linux after using my windows with an experience of just 9 months.
-people fail to realise linux is free(they even give us the program codes)
Mainly a lack of marketing.
In my opinion it still isn’t user friendly enough for the masses. I am pretty geeky but when it comes to Linux, I don’t have patientce to figure out all the stuff you have to do just to install something or to get a driver. Also, there are to many versions of it so users are too divided among their own linux denominations of the linux religion to "gang up" against Mircrosoft
"open Source" is only useful if your a software programmer..
the end consumer usually buys a computer to check their email, print pictures, do online banking, play games, etc etc..
As the majority of software is written to work on Windows, the consumer is going to purchase the operating system that they know they can use.
