Windows is what people are used to, it’s what’s advertised and unfortunately, it’s what many young, impressionable children grow up using. Microsoft got where they are today by abusing their power and controlling the market as much as possible to the point where most people don’t even know alternatives exist, which is a great shame (as in my opinion, Linux is by far the superior OS overall).
They’ve signed deals with hardware manufacturers to get it pre-installed on most PCs in the US and UK as well as without governments and schools, meaning that children grow up only using Windows and using expensive software rather than open or free alternatives. As a result people become used to Microsoft, used to viruses and errors, used to how Windows works, used to having to spend, spend spend or else pirate everything and they reject alternatives because they’re just so used to a world with only Windows. The very concept of Linux tends to be rejected.
In a way it is like subtle brain washing from Microsoft and their monopoly-like position in the Western market that has led to them having such power. That Linux as a whole doesn’t have the same power backing it (although Canonical back Ubuntu, Novell back SUSE, Red Hat back Fedora and IBM, Google and countless others support Linux) is another reason why people don’t use it. It’s not backed by massive companies willing to spend fortunes on advertising, on morally questionable deals, etc.
People are afraid of change. People are afraid of leaving their compact little homes which are bland and controlled by MS, with only a pair of windows providing them with any sight of the outside world.
People don’t realise the real world out there for computers users. A world without limits, one filled with choice, with freedom.
"In a world without walls or fences who needs Windows or Gates?"
I like linux too. It’s just that nobody want to go through the hassle of learning a new OS.
Convenience, ease of use and support, ease of finding software.
I like Linux aswell most people have windows for the simple fact people HATE change and windows is always right there when buying that new pc
Yeah linux is great
