Why not work with open-source Linux/Ubuntu or cheap and common Windows?

Apple is using smart marketing. They provide the Macs to the schools for almost free. You would pay $1200 if you went to the store and bought a Macbook. The If the school orders 30 of them, I bet they only pay about $500 each with service contracts. They may be refurbished, but they are tully functional. Seriously, Apple sells the computers to the school at a loss, and write off the difference on their taxes. They are getting the advertising for nothing.
That way kids are Mac savvy, and will bug their parents to buy a Mac when they get to collage. Apple started doing this back in the early 90′s.
If I was the head of marketing at Apple, that is exactly what I would do.
Because there playing with tax payer money of course. If they ran Windows, they’d spend more to keep it running than it would be worth. If they ran Linux they’d need a Linux admin (and they don’t come cheap).
