Which do you prefer, Linux or Microsoft? Why?

Linux reviews applications open source from SUSE Mandrake Mandriva Centos Redhat Debian and more
I think you intended to compare Linux to Windows. Microsoft is a corporation. I can’t run Microsoft… the bricks and people will not fit into my CD-ROM drive.
I don’t actually have a preference. That’s why I run both, if for completely different reasons. To me the idea of running a webserver under Windows is rather scary. I prefer Apache to IIS, and even that would work better under Windows in my opinion. Sure, .NET framework is cool and all that, but it’s not exactly taking over the world is it?
As for Linux, it leaves a lot to be desired as a desktop operating system. I like OpenOffice.org when it works but it has too many quirks, and after using Office for the last 17 years I think I’m stuck in my ways, even if Excel contains a bug in it’s date algorithm. KDE and Gnome still have some way to go before they’re ready for active duty. I have to admit that KDE can look very cool with the right mods. Gnome is okay but it’s still catching up.
Windows is my preferred choice of general desktop OS. I can develop all my websites on Windows and then deploy to Linux. I really like the esthetics of Windows XP. It’s simlpe and clean. It’s almost as sexy as OS X.
Linux is great for getting to the nuts and bolts of the OS. I can program using an almost endless array of languages and most of them come for free. I can ssh to my Linux box from anywhere in the house, or even from my Blackberry! Try doing that on Windows without additional software.
Linux falls down in the music software department. None of my chosen music applications work under Linux. I know that may change eventually but we’re stuck with the status quo for now and Windows does okay. Of course, the Macintosh is the platform of choice for music apps but it’s just too expensive and I cannot justify the expense.
Microsoft’s politics are what really bother me. They are essentially a company forged from a "lucky break". Some of their business ‘tactics’ leave a bitter taste in my mouth. Take for example what they did with Java after Sun sued for license infringement. They removed it from all future versions of Windows, which essentially inconvenienced only the end user. They recently did a similar thing with ActiveX components, which affects websites using Flash. Again, this move only serves to inconvenience you and me.
At least Windows security is being improved at last. Linux was far and away in the lead on this one, though Linux distributors shouldn’t be too cocky. There are some Linux viruses… about 12 I believe. Compare that with something like 145,000 for Windows. Hmmm… so that’s why my webservers run Linux.
Windows Vista had a lot of promise but they seem to have cut it down a lot just to get it out the door! Maybe they’ll add everything back in eventually, but for now the benefits of upgrading are small. That opinion is echoed by industry who are mostly in favor of keeping with XP for at least the next three years. Only a few major corporations will upgrade when it comes out or within six months of its release.
Another aspect of Microsoft as a company is its current upgrade policy. They produced a one-time fee package that promised all that all upgrades to current software would be supplied without cost. This was a two year deal, but a lot of companies were unhappy that the number of upgrades was minimal at best. These same corporations have voted with their feet now and almost all have signed the standard support contract instead, opting to pay for upgrades.
I have just switched to MAC and it seems to be so much better then the crash prone vunerable to virus’ windblows OS
Microsoft for ease of use ONLY
Linux is catching on … should see lottsa developments in a years time !
Forget linux, only people can’t afford MS choose it.
i would prefer microsoft (products) knowing the fact that Linux (products) are available very cheaply. because most of the new softwares run on microsft windows platform. and microsoft has a support network far better than any software firm.
so i would say Microsoft is the best.
Linux, because, bug free, high usability and security. Can program anything for our own usage.
Microsoft!! coz, its Graphical User Interface(GUI) is the main reason for more than 70% of Computer Users…
& oh! I haven’t used anything else hehehe…
Linux is the best…It is least affected virus…It may atfirst look weird. But once u use it u’ll never use microsoft o/s…Internet is much faster while using linux.
Audio and Video clarity is great…And the main thing, there is not much bugs or errors when compared to windows…Speed of operation of the PC increases with Linux o/s.
One can modify the o/s as per their reqts with linux.
The main problem is gaming. There r wide variety of games available in ms platforms but not in linux. Graphic software working on linux is also less… Apart from these two – - -> LINUX rocks.
Note: I’m not a linux professional.I started using it from march 2006… I don no much abt linux, but still i started lovin it after using linux
M$ is a good O/S with a better look n feel n terrific user interface. Ye I agree those who hav already worked with Windows will always say Linux is a crap. More applications in the market are available for a Win32 platfom. But that doesnt mean linux is non user friendly. When U buy Windows You get just Windows! And when u r gifted with a Linux O/S you get the whole home
.
What all aplications are available for Windows is available FREE for Linux.
I prefer to work on Windows when I am on Web Designing, but for coding n administraion issues its aways adviced to go for *nix
I can write 100s of reasons why I love linux!
here are some of them:
1.you can get Linux completely free of charge. That’s right, all linux guys all around the world work very hard to make a neat, secure, efficient, good-looking system, and they are giving their work away for everybody to use freely.
2.Linux protects your computer.
Viruses, trojans, adwares, spywares…they are names often mentioned with windows OS.
3.Windows has a pretty convenient tool called "Windows update", which allows you to update your system with the latest updates available.
But what about all your non-Microsoft software ? Adobe applications ? ZIP compresser ? Burning program ? Non-Microsoft web browsers and email clients, etc. ? You need to update all of them, one by one. And that takes time, since each one of them has its own (auto-)updating system.
Linux has a central place called the "Package manager", which takes care of everything installed on your system, but also every single piece of software your computer has. So if you want to keep everything up-to-date, the only thing you need to do is press the "Install Updates" button down there.
4.Pretty much all Windows users have the same desktop.
With linux you do have lots of choces.

Well, one of them was crashing all the time. I lost of my important work one day. So I switched to the other. I went for about 6 months without even having to reboot – and there was no crashing anymore.
I think you can figure out which operating system was which. The one you can go practically forever without rebooting, that does not crash.
who or what splane!
Mac OS X 10.4
you should prefer Microsoft as Microsoft is an good company and more people use Microsoft ins ted of Linux
Microsoft Windows Vista, it is more secure then Linux
Microsoft .coz i tink it ‘s easier
Microsoft
well, linux doesn’t have as much security holes as microsoft. but most people use microsoft and microsoft offers better support.
Microsoft because……don’t know.=>
Microsoft because I never learned how to use Linux.
