I want to learn how operating systems are developed. I have tried open source linux, but I don't like it. Please tell me where to get a small os that is easy and small so that I can understand it. Thank you very much!
It doesn't need to have a lot of functions, I need it in C/C++.
An answer that works gets the 10 points.

unix go back and get old version such as 386 versions i understand what u mean kernel these days are so vast is unblelivable in past it was a total of 1mb lol so look up older version but there arnt many os out there that are free and c\c++
but i would recomend look at old small versions of kernel and work your way from there most distro of linux well in fact all are based on same kernels and just diffrent packages on the disk
if you just want to make your own distro download the kernel and build up from it (install ur own gui such as gnome and ur own packages) they every thing u installed make note stick all on 1 cd with a kernel and a basic program to install them for ya wolla a distro been created like so many others
and dsl is linux to person above

Well, there's more than one distribution of Linux. Test them all out.
Try minix and netbsd.
The only open source operating systems are unix, linux, and freebsd. Linux and freebsd are based on unix but freebsd is apparently different. You can try FreeBSD or unix.
