What open source operating system would you recommend?

Hello,
I want to replace my Windows system with a variant of Linux OS. As I am not used to work on Linux, I would need an operating system that would be quite user friendly.
What do you recommend me? RedHat, Debian, Mandrake, Fedora? I really cannot decide upon one, as I did not try anyone before.
I will need it for personal use.
Thanks,
Alex

A great starting point for Linux users is Ubuntu. You can get a CD from them for free, it’s open source, and very user friendly. It is made specifically for just this kind of situation.
Its really a matter of personal preference, try each one for a week or so and then make your decision on which one works best for you
i would recommend feodara or red hat
ubunto it’s free open source and you can get a live
cd that allows you to try it with out making any system
changes. The look of it is great too.
Do a search you can request multi copies for giving to friends.
