I played around with Ubuntu remix for netbooks

I liked it, but had some issues with audio (only worked with headphones) but the interface was nice, download the live cd and try it out.
If you dont know anything about linux, stick with xp. Linux is by no means user friendly to the non-computer astute…
Check out the following website:

Another option would be to stick with XP and install a program like VirtualBox or VMWare Player (both free) to run Linux from Windows. This gives you the best of both worlds.
Ubuntu Netbook Remix is optimized for netbooks.

I think MB has the right approach. The netbok has limited specs and you will need a version of linux that is made especially for the netbook.
You should read the instructions; especially for the install and how to configure ubuntu.
Moblin looks like a new version of linux for the netbook. I do not know much about it, but it does look interesting. My only concern is, if you are new to linux you would have a harder time trying to find help with moblin since it has many fewer users. Ubuntu has many many more users and you will find it a lot easier to get help.
After you have used ubuntu for a while and feel comfortable with it and know your way around linux you should try moblin.
Here are some review of moblin.
Good luck
