What linux os are based off windows xp?
I can’t stand windows, it just irritates me. I heard linux mint is alot like it but some others would be greatly appreciated and where to download them would help to, thank you
I like the way its setup but it seems to mess up to much and I used ubuntu and red hat and they were nice just confusing. Im running a dual core intel d 2.8 ghz with 3 gb of ram so I should be able to run it no prob. thanks

Try using KDE rather then Gnome as your desktop. Its may be more familiar to use if you are migrating from XP. though it is more resource intensive then Gnome. which shouldn’t make any difference
Try downloading Kubuntu.
another distro you could try that i’ve found pretty friendly is OpenSuSe. give it a go.
If Ubuntu and Red Hat are confusing, you probably shouldn’t use linux. Those are two are the easier/friendlier linux distributions out there.
Linux Mint is actually based off of Ubuntu. Somewhat friendlier, but still mostly the same.

Personally I say go with Ubuntu, it just takes a lil time to get used to
Windows is like the "main" OS.
Linux is good.
Vista sucks.
No linux distro is going to be based off of windows xp. Maybe in general looks but the backbone of linux will still be there.
If you are looking for something that looks like xp and can run a lot of the same software then http://www.reactos.org/en/index.html would be a good place to start.
Bottom line is if you like the way xp works then just use xp. If you are really serious about using linux then it is going to take time to relearn all of the things that are probably second nature to you on xp.
When I made the switch I used Ubuntu. It has a learning curve but it is an easier transition than many of the others out there.
Try any KDE-based distribution such as Kubuntu. Better hurry though. Most still have 3.5 on them, and 4.0 was horrible (they say 4.2 was much better). Try KDE. Knoppix had it through version 5.3

It’s a live cd or live dvd. It’s a bit more complicated than Ubuntu but it ran KDE until 6.0 which came out within the last few weeks. Now it is very much a techie’s distribution, but 3.x 4.x and 5.x versions can still all be downloaded and they all run beautifully and they have KDE in the 3 series when it had strong resemblances to Windows but ran much more powerfully and efficiently. If you can deal with it — at all — you’ll probably love kubuntu. DON"T use Fedora Core 10.
