I’m playing around with an AMD K6-2 400 with 256MB of ram and a 10GB hard drive. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I found PCLinux2007 ran well on an older machine. I think they have a newer version now.

Try Ubuntu, I’ve had plenty of experience with it. It has good graphics and takes little space to operate. (2GB Minimum Hard Disk Space Needed)
Linux Mint 6 Fluxbox springs immediately to mind and would be perfect for running on a machine with those specs. http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_felicia_fluxbox.php
