not much, it’s pathetic really, use ubuntu.
There are dozens of distributions of Linux that could be considered "very small". Some of them come with practically nothing except a command line, basic file utilities (move, copy, read text file), and disk formating and testing tools.
Pretty much any distro will let you pick which applications you want to install. Xubuntu is a decent choice if you want to go light weight. You can install Openoffice.org or AbiWord and Gnumeric. It comes with a selection of media playing software to choose from, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats explains how to get around patent and licensing issues with some of the formats you probably want to deal with.
It depends on what you install, usually it comes without those.
For a very samll linux check out http://damnsmalllinux.org it only needs 50MB disk and 128MB RAM
Depends on the distribution you get, but as far as Damn Small Linux goes, what it comes with is all listed on its web site:

Just scroll down a little bit from the top.
Damn Small Linux is the smallest distro I know of, it’s about 50MB:

Very small Linux distros are very small because they have limited programs and limited desktops. If you install a very small distro, such as DSL, you will be very unhappy. Very small is meant for old, old hardware with very little harddisk space and very little memory – or to be installed on a flash drive. You would be better off switching to 98 or XP if you don’t like Vista.
