What is the difference of getting a notebook (laptop) with a Linux OS or Windows?

See, I’m getting this notebook a week from now and I’m choosing between the one with Windows and the other one Linux. Do they have differences? What are the advantages and disadvantages of choosing one of the two?

Hi, if u r getting a laptop then do this:
If u choose to install Windows Xp on it then its better to use Linux. Xp’s security sucks compared to Linux. In linux u won’t be able to play all the games and some software may not work, but Linux should have enough free of charge equally good software.
If u r getting a laptop with Windows Vista then its great because Vista is way better than Linux even Mac. Plus on Vista u can play ur favourite games as well.
Good Luck!
if you want to, you can test-drive linux on your own computer, and then see if you like linux or windows better

If there is a big price difference (I would wonder why!!!??!?!!), assuming the specs are comparable and the Windoze machine was cheaper, I would get the Windoze machine and install Linux as a dual-boot, and have both. This assumes you have a decent size harddisk.
The nice thing about getting the laptop with Linux installed is that everything will work out of the box, especially wireless, which is notoriously for usually being very difficult to set up.
Unless there is a compelling reason for one over the other, I would look at "bang for the buck" and warranties, and make the decision based on that. You can always put Linux in a Windoze machine. It is more difficult to put Windoze in a Linux machine – not impossible, just more tedious (from what I have read, I have never tried, but I have installed Linux numerous times on Windoze machines).
