what is the best thing about having a Linux based OS?

I was wondering what would be the best thing(s) about an OS like fedora core, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, etc, that would set them apart from the others.

No antivirus, malware, defrag, firewall, and security programs running in the background and taking up system resources.
There are so many distributions to chose from that there is something for everyone. http://distrowatch.com/
Much better performance, less crashes, no need to reboot to regain system resources.
Software that will run on any distro, no need to find another program because you upgraded.
Much easier to network.
Open source so you know the program does what it says it will do, no tricks, malicious code, backdoors, or security risks (people do review source code).
Freedom(customising it however you want), speed , stability, ect.
But, I must warn you if u are not willing to find alternatives to the programs u are currently using or are not computer literate, than u might have not want to switch
