I want an OS that’s ready to use out of the box. The best I’ve found so far is Linux mint

download this http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ then use it to install ubuntu to a flash drive.or any other linux distros it has in the drop down list.try super ubuntu i have it on tw0 flash drives.
XUbuntu and KUbuntu are distros of Ubuntu that have the bare minimum to run. It still has a user interface, but no games, no programs or anything else of that sort that uses up space.
kubuntu is best… its practically ubuntu with lots of more, and better graphic effects
ubuntu. or linux mint. they are both like windows…
i’d also look into knoppix, it has at least 3 of everything! XD
DSL is cool but…its not what your looking for. you would have to add stuff to it and its built for small drives or old computers
Go for Ubuntu 9.04, it works great for me (it’s what linux mint is based off)
install
ubuntu 9.04
it is better and lighter than any other open source os
