UBUNTU!!! Ubuntu is the best for everything; it is multi-purpose. Another good choice is SuSE 10, as with Fedora Core 5.
The different distributions of GNU/Linux mainly differ in the installation utilities, the package/update managers, and the lists of packages available to install. Once installed, they basically all work the same. I don’t know if any are geared specifically for multimedia, but check out distrowatch for more info than you care to know about your choices. If you don’t like the one you try, check out another one.
