What is the benefit of using Linux vs. Microsoft if you are just a regular office person?
Linux is often advertised as this grandiose OS, but at the end of the day it outputs the same product as Microsoft and or Macs. What makes Linux unique besides not crashing as often as Microsoft or running applications very fast? I work in a office and use a lot of application for which there is no Linux version (Linux might have some alternatives but are too hard on the regular user) so what is the appeal to use a Linux system if I have to tweaked the OS every time I want it to do something that under Windows it would done by a third party. What about the video games, most video games I play don’t come in Linux nor Machintosh just PC, and it would seem at times that software vendors or hardware companies are only concerned with the PC market and don’t distribute anything else to Open source projects such as Linux. What would be reason to abandon Microsoft?

" What makes Linux unique besides not crashing as often as Microsoft or running applications very fast?"
It’s proponents claim that is is more secure against malware as well as running on less powerful hardware.
"I work in a office and use a lot of application for which there is no Linux version"
What are the names of these applications. While there might not be a one-to-one match, there may be a Linux equivalent. Or even a single app that does a number of things. With a properly configured KDE desktop, you never need to leave the one application.

Not really, there’s a GUI click and select option for most every thing the average desktop user would want.
"What about the video games, most video games I play don’t come in Linux nor Machintosh just PC"
You can, although it does take extra fiddling with the system. Oh, how terrible, you’ll have to type text in a box o)

besides, you shouldn’t play game in the Office.

Abandon, it’s just a computer operating system, no need to get emotional over it. Have you ever considered moving to the Apple – Mac OS X Leopard.
hi, no matter what the others said, I still chooes the microsoft, and indeed it is easy to use and works well if you have the full version, all its problems are usually caused by a trial, if you need one, try http://smoay.com , I think it is a wonderful site, enjoy
Linux offers a lot more freedom then windows, which is why its popular among a lot of tech savvy guys. Windows is better for most users which is why it has 80+% market share.
Linux has video games, but they are online mainly to download (and free most of the time) you cant go into a Gamestop or Wal-mart and buy Linux native games. Which makes sence in a way. Problems come up with that which include:
a. you would have to pay
b. which version of linux are you running? (there are over 1000 distros) all with there unique file browser GUI’s KDE VS Gnome, and a million differences. Including a lot that have NO GUI, text only. Such as White-box Linux for servers.
c.Device Driver problems with the diffent type of Distros.
I use both Windows XP Pro and Ubuntu Linux 8.10 and works fine.
For gamming I am in Windows,
Everything else is Linux, MP3′s, flash/Javascript/ DVD movie playback/ pic’s work great in Linux.
If you are just using your computer for Office things Linux is the way to go, It is free and comes with a full Suite for office. (Open Office.org) pre installed. Your best bet is try dule-booting Ubuntu Linux with Windows, you can do this inside windows using WUBI, it does the work for you and see if you like. If not you can un-install no prob.
I would say bottom line if you are not gaming serious use Ubuntu Linux full time, no reason not to.
