With its increasing popularity with Ubuntu and the like, will Linux based systems ever make a significant dent in the Microsoft monopoly.
I for one, the more I use Ubuntu, the less I want to Boot into Windows.
What do you think ?
many thanks to piratesmack for sharing the WINE information with me.

The only thing that’s been keeping me from converting to Linux is that windows games aren’t linux-compatible, and most companies make software for windows. However, I tried out Wine yesterday, and was amazed at how well it was running windows programs. I’m still not quite ready to permanently switch to Linux, but it’s definitely a possibility. Ubuntu has become so popular that Dell is actually selling computers with ubuntu preinstalled. A weird thing that dell is doing, is selling pretty powerful computers (dual-core processors with 1-2 gigs of RAM) with an OS called FreeDos. (open source version of MSDos)
Not until it becomes main steam and is sold already loaded on computers at retail stores.
It’s been said by experts lately that if Microsoft doesn’t make Windows open source within the next few years, they may get overtaken. Windows although a powerful system, is having a hard time keeping up lately. I think it’s mainly because they haven’t done anything truly innovative in years.
Windows will be in the game for at least another decade at their rate, but I can see Linux getting more and more popular. Even schools are starting to adapt Linux because of how much money it saves. But still, Linux has a long road ahead of them if they ever want to become the primary OS.
looks like a few of the big ones suse red hat and ubuntu are getting ready to be loaded on computers Hp and dell are a couple that I know of right off the bat
the other thing is a few months ago there were almost no questions on here about linux and now they are popping up several a day it will be slow but I believe its coming with the way MS is goofing up and virus ridden they are pushing people away one by one
all we can do is what the big ones wont do and that is ADVERTISE put it on the net, local newspaper, billboards, heck a sign in the front yard or on your car
but we got to get the word out to people that there is an alternative
