I know that you can put Linux (Ubuntu to be exact) onto an External HDD. I’m wondering if it’s at all possible to put it on a thumb drive? I have a 2gig one, and as I understand it, ubuntu is only 700mb. Can I do it?

I’m trying to figure out how to install software on Ubuntu. I have Rosetta Stone and Resident Evil 5, but I can’t figure out how to install them from the DVD to the OS.

Ok I installed it using Wine, but now when I clicked launch application, nothing happened. I tried restarting it and clicking the icon, but still nothing happens. What can I do to fix this?

hello.
i play texas holdem poker on facebook ALOT lol. BUT… its tellin me i need to upgrade my flash player to play it… i click the link and it gives me options for the upgrade.
i have an acer aspire one netbook on linux…
(operating system – linpus linux lite v1.0.21.E)
firefox is built in as my web browser so upgrade has to b for firefox.

anyway…
the adobe flash player gives me the option for linux… and then gives me 4 more options to choose from…
options are:
1- YUM for linux
2- .tar.gz for linux
3- .rpm for linux
4- .deb for ubuntu 8.04+

which one do i pick… iv tried em all with no luck, am i doin sumin wrong??

someone please just help me upgrade the flash player as its REALLY annoying me!!!

What file system should I use for an external HDD used for both Linux and OS X?

I have a Mac (OS X 10.4.7) and an Ubuntu PC (6.06). What file system should I use for a shared 300GB ext hdd? I’ve read that OS X has no (first or third party) support for NTFS, and read only support for ext2 and no support for ext3. Meanwhile Ubuntu has no support for HFS+.
The disk I want to format is 300GB. Is that too big for FAT32? If so, how do I format it as such?
I’m open to any solutions, no matter how messy.

In order for me to do something like listen to music, videos, etc it tells me that I have to download Adobe Flash Player. It gives me these choices:
YUM for linux
.tar.gz for linux
.rpm for linux
.deb for ubuntu 8.04+

I tried all of them and nothing. I did use the terminal and it tells me:
Reading package lists… Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information… Done
flashplugin-nonfree is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

-What am I doing wrong?! When I tried going to the sites it tells me that I have to download the A.F.Player–again.

-I also wanted to add brushes on my GIMP and it denied it. It says that "root" is the owner..I really want to add things to my GIMP. I already downloaded brushes n stuff from deviantart and when I do try pasting it wont. What can I do in order for me to add brushes? How can I get rid of the "root"–well not rid of it–I want "root" to approve it.

May someone PLEASE explain to me step by step on what to do. I would REALLY appreciate it. Thank you!! Take care!! =)

I am downloading the .iso images of Debian, Ubuntu, and Fedora to burn into a DVD and I was wondering which is the best?

With its increasing popularity with Ubuntu and the like, will Linux based systems ever make a significant dent in the Microsoft monopoly.

I for one, the more I use Ubuntu, the less I want to Boot into Windows.

What do you think ?

Which one would you better recommend, Fedora 11 Linux or Debian 5 Linux? I tried Debian Linux for a little bit, but now I am sorta considering going with Fedora 11 Linux? Please do not recommend some other Operating System (LINUX) like Ubuntu, unless you think it is MUCH better than those, but please still list one of those two also. Thank you very much!

Ok, I have already got both, not a dual boot, I run them both using VMWare Player… But please still give any recommendations on any Linux Distros besides Ubuntu,Debian,and Fedora.

Even the mouse pointer is a big square with unreadable suff!Bu the way! Letters are pne over another!

I just installed the latest Ubuntu on one of my old computers and connected it to my home network. I’ve heard that only 1% of computers are using Linux. Are viruses any threat to this OS at this time?

Ok so I’m pretty decent with computers but a complete newbie when it comes to linux. The situation this guy has in the link below is exactly my problem (even the same laptop) but i dont really understand his solution lol. so if you could kind of dumb it down and explain it to me in a more newbie-friendly way it would be greatly appreciated and of course 10 pts. well , i am realtivly new to linux ( ubuntu , knoppix )
im going to be going to college soon , and im wondering what sort of jobs would i look at that could require me to use linux ?
i currently know html and am pretty fluent with html , wordpress and style sheets
im working on learning php , and i know a very little amount of python ( basically nothing)
so i guess what im wondering is how do i further my knowledge from just using the os ( i know some things like using terminal , , gedit , sudo …small stuff like that)
but i want to focus my trainign to a specific job soon , and any studies i can do on my own are only going to help me
the reason i was thinking linux , is mainly beacause linux seems like an os that you can really learn … you can "get your hands dirty" in the actual os
but , if you think i would be able to have a more succesfull career with windows then please say so

and what are some future computer related jobs that are going to be in high demand ?
