How do I burn Yellow Dog Linux 5.0 to a dvd?

I want to know how to burn Yellow Dog Linux 5.0 to my dvd. I have a folder that says, yellowdog-5.0.1-phoenix-20070511-PS3. In the folder I have; etc, images, ppc, ps3, reportdata, Yellowdog, .discinfo, releasenotes, rpm gpg key. Which files do I burn to the cd?!

IMPORTANT: I also don’t know what type of burning process I should do. Should I do a data disk?! I’m clueless here!

Watch streaming media in Linux?

So i installed Yellow Dog Linux 6 on my PS3, got the internet, video everything working great but i cant find a way to make streaming WMV files to play from a browser. I tried installing MPlayer and MPlayerplug-in but i dont know how to do it for sure ( compiling the source n etc.) Is there any way to make the installation with RPM packages ? when i "tried to install" MPlayer ./configure make and make install all completed but i cant find the program anywhere.

Thanks in advance from any1 that could help me out.
Well YDL is the one that best supports the PS# so i wonna make sure the internet and display work properly in 1st place. i already have w32codecs installed. What difference does it make if its with RPM packages ?

Hi.

I followed these instructions to install a java plugin for mozilla firefox on linux but Mozilla Firefox still says there is no plugins installed. I downloaded both, the self-extracting file and the RPM file.

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/linux_install.xml

I did everything it said and verified that everything was correct. I I’m sure I have java installed and I went through the steps to enable it. I restarted Firefox and still nothing. =(

Here is some information…

In this directory………/usr/java………………there is

-jru-6u23-linux-i586.rpm
-jru-6u23-linux-i586-rpm.bin

In this directory…………../usr/lib/mozilla/extensions…………there is

-libjavaplugin_oji.so
-ns7-gcc29

I know I created the symbolic link. Here is the evidence.

ln: creating symbolic link ‘./libjavaplugin_oji.so’: File Exists

So why doesn’t the java plugin work???

Help is greatly appreciated.

Brandon.

I got it to work. I already know who’s going to get the best answer. Thanks. I just needed that little piece of info.

How to find linux full offline linux software?

Ok, fairly dumb question, but im a student at JobCorp and i’m using Linux(OpenSuse-Gnome). I’m relatively new at using it, coming off from Windows-XP. I’ve been trying to find software that doesn’t require me to have a active internet connection.
My classroom computer is WinXP(school policy with net) and dorm room(no internet at all isnt allowed) is OpenSuse-Linux.
So this seems to be a rather difficult adjustment, as i don’t understand why the forcefulness nature of connecting to a server to download. cant it be like windows and just give a zip-like and just install,
yes im aware of .rpm and other zip-likes >.>
* Forcing by which that almost every site that personally I have been to not just ONE >.> geez really think I went to one >.> wow no. Its just a question if anyone knows a site that has the full software to download so i can use flash drive and install it, tired of the files being quicklinks to websites >.> its no wonder why ppl dont leave windows if that all thats to offer its internet required to get stuff physically, what a luxury we dont all have, but im just saying ya know not to be edgy

I just want to confirm if anyone has ever used Google Chrome on Mandriva 2009.0.
NOT on 2009.1 or 2010

if yes, could you please give me links to the rpm and procedures how you successfully got it to work? thanks a bunch.

I need it badly. My boss wants me to test a site in Google Chrome but I can’t since my workstation here at the office uses Mandriva 2009.0 and it’s my first time to work with a Linux OS.
Thank you hawklord. I have come to that conclusion as well. Now, I want to know how could I update Mandriva to 2010.1? I’m a newbie with Linux OS. Thanks

Which Linux OS is good for me?

Hello, Im currently in grade 12 and im wanting to find a good OS to use for my university years.

So Im running vista and in getting Windows 7 but I’m wanting to try a Linux OS. I tried Fedora, Ubuntu and Mint OS, but I have troubles (i.e unfamiliar to the RPM and other commands) and I had some trouble with my graphic card :(

So here is my System specs:

-Intel Core2 QUAD @ 2.33GHz
-nVIDIA 9500GS
-6GB RAM
-1TB HDD
-802.11b/g wireless

Note that I might be getting a laptop but the specs above are of my desktop)

So which Linux OS should I try?

Im looking for:
-Something easy to use (but I don’t mind challenges or learning something new)
-Im used to more a KDE then GNOME
-Easy to customize
-Multi-task/Multi-thread
-Good platform for Development and research and data analyzing/creating/modifying and also good for using Engineering/Scientific Applications (need that as im going into aerospace)
-Good for documenting and office working (i.e Microsoft Office or any variant and able to use Adobe)
-Good for multimedia
-Good for gaming
-good for leisure use
-very good system tools and a great security system
-and just overall very efficient, powerful, long lasting, and the ability to utilize new Technology (i.e. touch screen)

Please and thank you and I know some people might say stick with Windows, but I don’t want to be in trouble of viruses and data loss.

Thanks in advance :)

Adobe Flash Player for Linux?

Trying to install Flash for x86 it takes me to this page where I can download one of three ways, tar, rpm or YUM. Not sure which one to download they said to put it on the desktop; is one easier to work with than the other, also their directions for running the install were a bit vague, said to run

./flashplayer-installer

from the terminal but once I got there the terminal didn’t know what I was talking about. It may have done something in the background I wasn’t aware of and I may be missing a step.

Using latest version of Firefox with Ubuntu FIesty Fawn.

I’m on acer netbook linux (Fedora 8). I tried to install the xvid codec and xine media player from rpm packages. I might have deleted libxvidcore.so.4 after it said there was a conflict. Now ffmpeg isn’t working. It says :error while loading shared libraries: libxvidcore.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Please help with exact instructions and codes. I actually found this file in another directory so I’m not sure if it got deleted or not. Any links or rpm packages with this file in it would help.

Please don’t answer if you have no idea about linux. Some people try to get cute on here, but I need real answers today because I wanted to grab some songs from youtube and make a birthday cd by converting them to mp3 in ffmpeg. My dad’s B-day is tomm. so please hurry.
Just tried this same error message. Thanks anyway.

I personally think that the linux OSes, need to develop their WINE more.

Contact hardware manufactures and software developers to ask them to make a Linux version or to have it open source (hardware manufacturers only)

Make it that the main Linux OS, have a universal installing program. Right now its .rpm for fedora and .deb for ubuntu and Debian.
