I downloaded a program (or I thought it was a program) to archive my old entries in my blog and transfer into hard copies. The description says it’s open source. I opened the folder and all that’s inside of it are PHP files. I have no clue how to "activate" or open these files, let alone use them. Do I need to download a specific application? Do I need to have Linux?

I want to do "advanced" edits, like moving a jpeg image or even a video around the screen, on my mac. I want it open-source so I can look at how it works, and I want to spend as little money as possible on it. Any suggestions other than installing Linux on my mac(which is actually a family mac)?

Linux is open-source, right? Why not have people/communities doing movies for free, writing books for free, singing music for free? Of course there are areas where this concept of "openess" can not be applied, because we need to earn a living somehow.

I bought this l.t. in May and I could not stand Windows Vista, so I put Mandriva (Linux) on here. I use to be able to connect wirelessly when I brought up local networks through the Mandriva Control Center, now when I go to look for connections, nothing shows up even though I know there are connections available this has happened in Starbucks, my house, in college, the library and all places where there are DEF. connections available. Open source can get complicated at times, please help, my email adress is ehsoteric@yahoo.com if im not clear enough about this subject.

I have an HP 3500cp 54" printer. It has a built in "mini RIP." I have read that a proper RIP will improve performance and quality.
Is there a open source under linux or windows available? My net searches don’t seem to yield anything conclusive.

I realize there is linux, but I would really like to have something that can run exe files just as smoothly as windows with a lot less bulk than windows. Open-source or freeware would be appreciated. Any Ideas?

Are there any open source Linux (free) systems that I don’t have to program wireless connectivity // my drivers into? I’m a little tired of having to re-install my wireless drivers every kernal update on Ubuntu 8.10.

I have just switched to Ubuntu Linux (specifically Linux Mint), and I would like to keep all of my installed applications open source so I may modify them later. I have used BitComet as my main BitTorrent client on Windows and have gotten ridiculous speeds out of it, so any client suggested must be very fast as well.
Multiple suggestions encouraged.

I’m looking for a system that offers group calendars that are flexible and can be shared for scheduling meetings, etc. It is for a new, extremely poor, nonprofit organization. They simply cannot afford M$ and Exchange. I’ve heard there are solutions in Linux, but the ones I’ve found are barely cheaper than Exchange. So I’m looking for something that is freeware or open source to use instead. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Given how widely supported open source OSs such as Linux are, why would you choose to use a NOS that requires high licensing fees?
