Gen 30:16

16 When Jacob came out of the field in the evening, Leah went out to meet him and said, "You must come in to me, for I have surely hired you with my son’s mandrakes." And he lay with her that night.
Was that cheap ?
Keeping in mind that Jacob would be the Ancestor of our Saviour Christ.

what are mandrakes?

okay i should have been clearer… someone just asked ‘dont you hate when another woman steals your mandrakes?" she talked about getting pregnant in her question. so i guess i should be asking her what she meant, so if you are reading this, what did you mean?

There is this girl that lives in my neighborhood and I think she stole some of my mandrakes because she has been wanting to get pregnant and she knows I had some mandrakes. I want to get pregnant too, but I would have given her some if she had of asked. I just don’t like it when people takes things without asking. *sigh*

I came upon this passage today on accident, or so I thought….what are your thoughts on the signicant aromas at work here?

"The mandrakes give a smell, and at our gates are all manner of pleasant fruits , new and old, which I have laid up for thee, O my beloved." Song of Solomon 7:13

I just love the spiritual sense of this aroma……But what does this really mean ?

I also love the mention made of things both New and Old….that has been laid up for thee beloved !

Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, which brings forth out of his treasure things new and old. Matthew 13:52

Is the mention of "all manner of pleasant fruits" in the Song of Songs speaking of the Precious Fruit which the Spirit is bringing forth in His Precious people ?

Lastly, " Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain." James 5:7

much love to you ALL : )

P.S. Here is the Hebrew word for Mandrakes….דּוּדי
From H1731; a boiler or basket; also the mandrake (as aphrodisiac): – basket, mandrake.

Doo Dah Doo Dah ….. I dont mean to be a "basket case"….But wasn’t baby Moses rescued by a basket case ?

"O0ooo 0ooooo that smell……cant you smell that smell…..the smell of Mandrakes around you !" ?=))

"Now thanks be unto God, which ALWAYS causeth us TO TRIUMPH IN CHRIST, and maketh manifest the savor(Frangrance) of HIS KNOWLEDGE by us in every place." 2Corinthians 2:14

What does the Fragrance of the Knowledge the Glorious Triumph of the LOVE of CHRIST smell like to you beloved of God ? Saa~ WeeeeeT ~ !?

*smiles, and smells the mandrakes of the love of Christ for us* Ahhhhhhhhh *sighs* ; )
Pete: awww…C’mon pete, have you even smelled a mandrake ?

Well, may the frangrance of the Knowledge of the Glory of God’s finished victory waft accross your path today dear one !… Much love to you dear soul beloved of God….

Ephesians 3:19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.
Lotta Lou: Thank you for sharing…. the Doodah Day definitly belongs to the Lord and intimacy with Him….What wonders of love he has laid up in store for those who love Him…. He is Pure and Holy and His awesome Love is the Love of Righteousness and Justice and Mercy and Truth ! HalluJah and thanks for the upbeat answer ! God bless you : )

I’m looking for some pictures online of mandrake roots, and so far, I’ve only stumbled upon photoshopped pictures of people reinforcing the idea of mandrakes resembling the human form.

Where are the ACTUAL pictures? lol are people scared of pulling them out themselves and taking a REAL picture of it due to it’s "deathly scream"? xD
EDIT: if any of you have any original pictures, I appreciate the links to it. I’m interested in seeing more of the perspective that inspired the lore that connects soo heavily with it.

Why do they have to wait for Madame Sprout’s Mandrakes to mature before curing the petrified people? Is there honestly not a supply of the stuff out there somewhere?

Gnomes are always messing with crops, and Mandrakes are little people crops. Do you think they hate each other?

I sold my husband Jacob to my sister Leah for one day for a bundle of mandrakes.
You can clearly read the incident in Genesis.

He is not talking to me.
What should I do ?

My best friend Jessica who is also my co-wife (I didn’t want to put that on the main question) has been trying to get pregnant with our husband now for 2 months and she still isn’t pregnant :( What can I do to help? I wanted to give her some of my mandrakes but she is allergic to them. Any suggestions? She is only 19! :(

After the Battle of Hogwarts there was a witch trial (hunt more likely) that deemed that the fifty odd casualties (mostly Hogwarts inmates) were found dead in the grounds and the reason of death was they were not issued ear muffs while chucking grown mandrakes at the Death Eaters. Negligence was the verdict. And that’s how Neville became the youngest Herbology teacher.

Genesis 30:16
When Jacob came in from the field in the evening, then Leah went out to meet him and said, "You must come in to me, for I have surely hired you with my son’s mandrakes." So he lay with her that night.

Song of Solomon 7:13
"The mandrakes have given forth fragrance; And over our doors are all choice fruits,Both new and old,Which I have saved up for you, my beloved.

I’m having some trouble with the Herbology test in the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix game for Wii. (The minigame where you have to repot the Mandrakes) I’ve moved them all to the new pots in rounds 1, 2, and 3 without trouble, but when Professor Sprout calls for the end, I find out I failed. Is there some trick to this that I’m not getting, or am I just not performing fast enough? Does it matter which pot you put the Mandrake in? If you’ve finished this, please let me know!
