Linux is in violation of nearly 300 patents owned by Microsoft but the distributors and users of Linux haven’t paid a single cent in royalties to Microsoft. In fact, a lot of distributors of Linux offer their OS for free so the users are just as bad as software pirates who are causing Microsoft to lose money and have to charge more for people who legally buy Microsoft Windows instead of people who use Linux or a bootlegged copy of Windows. Why is it legal for Linux to do this?
Here’s a source to an older article. I can’t remember the link from PC World that indicates that Linux is in violation of at least 253 patents owned by Microsoft.

I have a Compaq that has been acting up lately. I had Windows XP Home Ed. installed on it. I was having problems because windows would not even load up. I attempted to perform full recovery on the hard drive. But it would freeze on the process. I assumed it must have been a windows, so I decided wipe everything and install Linux Mandrake on that machine. The computer still freezes during the linux intallation process. What could be causing this?

I have a small blog. Currently I run my own Linux server, but it’s a bit of a constant headache and costs /month in dedicated server (cloud VPS) charges.
I’d like to migrate this to a managed platform where somebody else is worrying about server upgrades, protection from hackers, etc, and I just get full admin rights to my own WordPress instance.
It’s important for me to keep my own domain name and to have NO third-party advertising on the site (I sell my own ads). And I’d like to keep under /month, otherwise, it becomes a hard choice compared to the dedicated server.
Is there any web hosting company that satisfies these requirements?
Thanks

I am trying to create a desktop entry for Lightscribe SimpleLabeler to add it to my Applications menu in Fedora 12. However, I can’t seem to get the "Exec=" line to work. I realize this is a novice question, but what do I put in that field, and how do I find it?
This IS a Linux version of the software. The software is NOT the issue, simply creating a desktop entry for the program IS.

I am starting a website for people that think really far outside the box and want to share their intuition with the world in hopes of changing peoples lives. I am looking for open-source software to install in my Linux/mysql server. I am looking for one that has a blog, forum, member log in, RSS feeds, and also a place where you can put up videos. I have heard of many out there but i am having a hard time narrowing it down. I would live your guys opinions. Any ideas?

I’m testing Linux Suse in VM and I’m not familiar with the OS. I’d like some direction on a good utility similar to Ccleaner for windows to help keep temp files and crud down. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also wondering about anti-virus programs and antimaleware programs for suse.

I’m sick of microsoft, but don’t know Linux very well. Here’s my plan: I want to put Linux and windows on both computers. I want to network the two with Linux (I’ll only be using windows for offline work). Will windows interfere with me using Linux as my preferred OS? Any other problems I might face? Is Ubuntu easy to network with?

I just installed Linux Mint Debian Edition(LMDE). Unlike the Ubuntu based Mint, This one can’t automatically detect the graphics card and doesn’t show the notification in the tray, so I can’t use animations and Compiz effects.
Any help?

i have a linux server, what is the easiest way (language) to build a website?
i think PHP is an overkill, any other idea?
the website should work over SSL and have nice forms, but not so complicated.
any suggestion?
the only important thing is the webpage should be able to run applications on the server.

I’m planning to use three 10,000 rpm Western Digital Rapters in RAID 5 for my dream PC that I’m getting ready to build. I want the quickest possible boot and load times from my hard drives but I also want some protection against data loss (bad experience with RAID 0). I also want to have tri-boot system (Linux, XP and eventually Vista) and am concerned that three partitions would reduce or eliminate the performance gains from my RAID array. Is this true? Any suggestions and advice would be much appreciated. (Storage and back up is provided by a 2Terabyte NAS so I don’t need a huge amount of local strorage)
