I have one desktop, a netbook, and an old laptop. I no of many linux applications I like to run and have trouble getting rid of some of the ones that come with linux distros that i have no need for. Especially with my netbook only having 4gb of space i would like to be able to have just the ones I want installed. I want to be able to install one linux system on all three that will allow me to afterwards add a desktop enviorment or window manager as i see fit and then apps. If there is an easy way to take a distro and then change the desktop enviornment wheather terminal commands or gui that would help any ideas will be appreciated ill write messages if you need more info.

To Tracey L. I have read up on it there is a total of 200 questions on the exam review and these were the ones I was stumped on.

Linux is often advertised as this grandiose OS, but at the end of the day it outputs the same product as Microsoft and or Macs. What makes Linux unique besides not crashing as often as Microsoft or running applications very fast? I work in a office and use a lot of application for which there is no Linux version (Linux might have some alternatives but are too hard on the regular user) so what is the appeal to use a Linux system if I have to tweaked the OS every time I want it to do something that under Windows it would done by a third party. What about the video games, most video games I play don’t come in Linux nor Machintosh just PC, and it would seem at times that software vendors or hardware companies are only concerned with the PC market and don’t distribute anything else to Open source projects such as Linux. What would be reason to abandon Microsoft?

I mean Windows is a pretty much well known O.S…and as far as embedded development or ASIC design is concerned why do companies use UNIX/LINUX system..Why don’t they use Windows…?

I have a Redhat 9 linux system that suffered a system hard drive failure. I have reinstalled the system, would like to restore access to the secondary drive, hdb.

I try the command: mount -t ext3 /dev/hdb1 /data

I get the error:

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hdb1,
or too many mounted file systems

Again : I have debian linux with a 2.4 kernel (i think) and during the installation of this version i installed the desktop enviroment package. I saw that there was a webserver option but i didnt select it at that time but i now want to install that package, could anyone help me (step by step would be very nice). Once i have this package installed i want to configure this linux to be a webserver accessible from inside and outside of my network, e.g host my own site. I know it can be done but i just need it in a way which isnt confusing and helpful.
So i want to :
1) Install the webserver package of Debian Linux (i have desktop enviourment installed with a 2.4 kernel i think)
2) I want to be able to set up this linux system to host website so that i can become a website hoster / reseller.
