I have a small blog. Currently I run my own Linux server, but it’s a bit of a constant headache and costs /month in dedicated server (cloud VPS) charges.

I’d like to migrate this to a managed platform where somebody else is worrying about server upgrades, protection from hackers, etc, and I just get full admin rights to my own WordPress instance.

It’s important for me to keep my own domain name and to have NO third-party advertising on the site (I sell my own ads). And I’d like to keep under /month, otherwise, it becomes a hard choice compared to the dedicated server.

Is there any web hosting company that satisfies these requirements?

i have a linux server, what is the easiest way (language) to build a website?
i think PHP is an overkill, any other idea?

the website should work over SSL and have nice forms, but not so complicated.
any suggestion?

I saw a definition concerning linux boot access:"Boot access is root access". This makes the fact that if someone has physical access to the linux server, he can get root access and copy protected files.

Moreover, if a linux application server has to be packaged and installed "Physically" in companies this will give them access to the files and they can copy them illegally.

I heard of LIDS (Linux Intrusion Detection System) but I couldn’t understand the boot access security.
My question:
Is there a boot level security that enables the fact of packaging server applications and install them in companies without the risk of the code being stolen (especially if it’s in a scripting language php, asp)

I just setup a new linux server and want to create a password protected website that has an easy gui fron-end that allows gets and puts via apache. I have been trying to get native apache password protection to work and have had some difficulty. And even with that I can’t get the puts to work. Is their a skin or template that I can put onto the box that has a generic gui and password scheme to make this work. This wouldn’t be high volume, just for friends type of thing. Thanks for any recommendations.

If i put some kind of server os on this computer that i have, does that mean I can just go to networks in Windows 7 and save stuff to it even if it’s a Linux Server?

And the other one has an Intel C2Q Q9300 Single Processor Quad Core.

Which one is better, if all else is equal?

This is just for running a personal site, btw. And I’m NOT BUYING A SERVER, I’m trying to choose between 2 hosts with the above mentioned servers.

What is in your opinion the best web server like Linux version out there?

I’m currently running Linux Mandrake 10.2 and am having trouble making Apache host websites out of my Linux Server, Ive tried getting to it through another browser via its IP address but nothing (wont even ping it)happens, says no server availabel?? What should i do?

I would like to build a linux server using suse linux

Currently running a Linux server but few understand it to maintain it. Would we be better converting to a Microsoft server?
For context we are a small to medium Charitable company based in the UK, running about 50 workstations off the server deploying both PC’s in the general office and MACs in the Creative office.

Because we are registered as a Charity we can obtain Microsoft software are approx 20% of retail price through the National Council for Voluntary Organisations.

I have a Linux server (Fedoracore) and I’ve seen my supervisor remote control to it from Windows XP Pro. Can anyone help me to set up a Linux server to make it available to remote control like that?
