SOundmax driver on suse linux?
I have recently installed suse 10.0 linux on my lenovo 3000 J115. As great as it is, I am quite dismayed that my integrated sound card (by the company soundmax…lenovo is a bit cryptic about giving the type, but the windows driver is labeled "q4aud23us13.exe"…default embedded sound card.) is not being recognized. Can anyone give me a step by step on where to find a driver and how to install it?
ALI Soundmax Card
There is a little icon on the top bar (running gnome) that looks like a speaker with a little red x next to it. I tried clicking it, and it says my sound card isnt configured. I tried configuring it, but i cannot find my card in the list of drivers that are preinstalled.

1. Windows drivers are not for use on a Linux machine. There is a driver for the ali/soundmax cards in the Linux kernel so no driver downloads necessary. That whole downloading a driver is very common in Windows, but Linux pretty much takes care of all of that automagically.
2. Is the mixer turned up? The default is to mute it. If you don’t see a little speaker in the bar along the bottom, it’s probably in a "multimedia" menu. I don’t run Suse any more so I don’t know what’s where.
3. You need way more help than you can get here. http://www.linuxquestions.org is pretty good. I think Novell has user groups that may be able to help too.
Have you tried Driverguide.com? You’ll have to register, but it’s free. You won’t believe their database!
