Putting a Linux OS on a touch screen MP3 player?

Hey I just bought a touch screen Mp3 Player off eBay and the "OS" for lack of a better word just sucks I was wondering if it would be possible to put something like Ubuntu on it or am i just stuck with what i got ?

I don’t believe your MP3 player could handle Ubuntu. The first problem would be hardware, which is most likely not supported. The next would be resources; Debian can just barely run on the Google nexus one (which is practically as strong as a computer) and needs about the same hardware or worse as Ubuntu to run. With that said, I have yet to hear of an mp3 player that could match nexus in hardware.
Now, replacing the firmware of such devices can be risky and could lead to "bricking" the device or damaging it in other ways, but if you really want to try and replace the OS you can take a look at rockbox. You didn’t specify the make of your device so I can’t be sure it’s supported, nor do I know much about rockbox to begin with, but from what I’ve heard it’s good.
