Poll: Open source in the public schools?
Russia mandates that Open Source software (free software, for example: Open Office, and certain versions of Linux) be used in public schools. If the school does not want to use open source, then the school can use its own funds.
Would you be in favor of such a policy? Do you support or contribute the Open Source movement?

linux, open office, appache all work fin so why waste money on microsoft. anyway america and russia are ex rivals, do you think russia wants to buy stuff from a country they dont like. that money saved on this action can be used on something else such as hiring more qualified teachers insted of spending on unessary software.
I don’t see any reason why most computers in schools should not be open source these days.
Just ask your politicians and school board members why they are spending money on products when they could be using free comparable products. If they start arguing, be firm and polite about not voting again for people who don’t believe in saving money. Be polite. Many of these people may be honestly ignorant. But it they insist on staying that way, then they should not be in office.
There’s no reason in a junior school to use any software that costs, and probably not reason in high school either.
