i have had smoothwall2.0/3.0 as my firewall on my desktop server for years and loved it, but i just switched over to blade dell servers and smoothwall 3.0/2.0 dosen’t work on RAID arrays. can someone give me like a list of free open source (preferably Linux/gnome based)good firewalls?

Try Untangle. I used to use Smoothwall myself from a recommendation of a friend and loved it for a time. Then I found Untangle, it is very user friendly and has a ton of easy-to-install packages on it. It has the ability to set up RAID harddrives, as well as:
IDS
Firewall listings
E-mail/Spam/packet virus detection
OpenVPN
Bandwidth/website logging
Web Content Filtering
Multi-nic setups for DMZs and bridge network
and a lot of other stuff i haven’t tried
The best part is it is based off the Debian CLI and has a web front end for remote administration and a java front end for local administration. I prefer this software solution over any hardware firewall I’ve ever used.
i believe Fedora has one built in….
