What im asking is:
Is it as easy to use as microsoft XP?
Is it an easy transittion if ive previously only used XP?
Is it only for developers?
Any good? Worth downloading/using?
Thanks

The problem with answering the Linux question is that there are so many different distributions, and so many different ways to use a computer. I recommend you use the Linux Distribution Chooser (http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/)……. This will ask you a series of questions in many different areas, after which a few distributions will be recommended. I think you will be better served by the Distubution Chooser than if each of us just recommends our favorite flavor of Linux.
I would say madriva may not be the best choice of Linux operating system.the reason for this is that it’s a strict all over and license software distribution. It does not, with several items most users would consider essential installed like Java. These things can be installed without too much work and instructions are easy to find on the web.
Personally for new users of Linux desktop systems I recommend Ubuntu or Suse because they are really ready to run from the CD for almost every user.
Like all Linux distributions it is not a simple OS to use unless you plan to read quite a lot of documentation on linux.
No xp software will work on it. It does have many apps as default installed on it but if you plan to install even linux apps on it it’s not a simple task.
I encourage you to download and have a play with it in maybe a virtual machine. It is rather cool to see the other side of the fence but not to use it as your main OS.
Have a read of the link below for more info.
Everything is a good alternative to Windows, including giving all your money to Billionaires, which is what you are doing by buying Windows. Kubuntu is another Linux program available for free and superior to all windows at http://www.kubuntu.org
LOL
Linux is just as easy to use as Windows.
The only difference is that you will never get a virus or spy-ware or trojan.
If you want a easy transition then try Linspire Linux.
You absolutely can’t tell the difference between Linspire and Windows.
Linspire is very popular and you can even buy it at Wal-Mart.
If you decide to buy it then just get the basic version because you don’t need the virus service as long as you don’t automatically log in.
You will also have free access to thousands of programs and games from their Click N Run warehouse.
Don’t listen to the nimrods that try to tell you that it is just too difficult because it is not.
In fact it is by far easier to use than Windows because you will not have to install all kinds of drivers and extra crap.
Linux does all of that automatically for you.
If you need help you can call the tech support people at Linspire anytime free of charge.
Yes, all support is free.
I like Kubuntu Linux too but Linspire is what I recommend to anyone that wants the fastest easiest operating system available.
If you try Linspire Linux and you like it, then tell other people about it too.
Linspire really takes good care of their customers.
Here is a link.

Check out the available programs too.

~BTW~ Linspire and Ubuntu are now partners.
Yes KBUNTU/UBUNTU are very user friendly. Do get one of them. My family has switched over.
