simple linux no more crashes from viruses MS is to buggy and to greedy
For me it depends on the context.
For work, I would use Linux, no question. I need access to Vi, ssh and various other time saving UNIX tools that I’ve become accustomed to.
For home, I would use Windows (if I didn’t have a Mac). There is just too much admin required to run Linux. I no longer find it fun to be editing xorg.conf just to get the extra buttons on my mouse to work, or to get the correct screen resolution. Also, the Linux UI looks like crap, there’s no consistency. Try running Firefox in KDE, it looks horrible. After having been a Mac user for a while, it becomes evidently apparent that the Linux UI (KDE is the worst offender but Gnome too though) has copied a lot of the Windows paradigms (e.g. the start menu), and implemented them badly (e.g. the KDE 3.5 start menu). I have plenty of examples but I won’t bother listing them here.
For a server, I would never dream of using Windows. It would be my worst nightmare. I’m quite happy to compile custom versions of PHP, Apache and MySQL. It’s relatively easy to administer and server migration is also quite trivial, it’s normally a case of copying the config files from one machine to another.
have spent quite a bit of time with both but prefer windows for 2 main reasons.
1. you dont have to spend a lot of time on it keeping it running and getting it set up with different hardware. Linux can be a real hassle with hardware (driver) issues because not many hardware vendors make drivers for it. Also, I got really sick of all the console stuff it needs – dont have the time these days to look up command lines
2. theres more software for windows and its (generally) much better quality. the machines at our place are family machines so we need to be able to run a variety of software. Linux is very limited in this respect (very few games, not much commercial-quality software for it)
the only thing I miss about linux is kde. Its a much better desktop than windows. There’s noises about a windows version of it coming out and if they ever make a decent stable version Ill be right onto it.
Microsoft because I’m using this since I was a kid and until now is better for me than linux but it’s up to you if what’s better for you….
Linux. Just switched to it like 6 months back. I still have a 23 GB windows xp partition there but I never boot into it, probably bcoz I don’t play many games.
Another reason is that my hardware will not support vista.
the only reason i use windows is because
most other people do, and it’d be hard to
re-learn everything for linux
For what? Different tools are better for different tasks.
I’d use Windows if I wanted a gaming system.
Linux if I wanted a server (for most kinds of server anyway).
For a general desktop, I’d go with Linux … if OS X wasn’t an option.
MS b/c most of the software i use can not run on linux.
if i can run those softwares on linux i would love to change to linux completely.
I prefer Microsoft since I get used to it and becomes habit
LINUX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Linux because it’s more stable and it runs things faster.
I do love Windows though.
Windows is made for people that have no idea what they’re doing, and then they send their computer to me when it breaks because they had no idea how to use it when it worked, so they have to pay me $90+ to get it running again.
