from my experience linux will run on damn near any hardware. We have Debian running web servers that are on Celeron 1.7s and AMD 1000s
I use Dell Laptops and there are only a few Linux distributions that won’t work. I have installed and ran and tested over 150 Different Linux distributions in the past two year. There is only one I would not install on a computer and that is the one Called Unity Linux. I crash it every time trying to do updates and upgrades. Mint Linux really shouldn’t be an issue. It is slow to boot while it looks for all the hardware drivers, installs them and then boots from the CD, but so is Ubuntu. After installing it repeats this being slow while it actually sets itself up with the required Hardware drivers, but once this process is done it works just fine. This delay and black screens spook people into believing it has crashed, but sometime it really can take up to 10 minutes depending on the computer.
