Isn't it good to use the free OS(linux) rather than using pirated Microsoft Windows?
Its so easy to get pirated Windows that you don’t bother buying it. But one should think about whether we should do it or not. I mean it feels good when you are doing the things in a way that you think is right. If I think about it, it seems that the people who did so much hard work in making the Microsoft Windows are getting less paid because of us. What do you think: ‘What is so wrong about using the pirated stuff?’ Moreover, when there is a free alternative available(Linux) why don’t we use it and feel good about not using the pirated one.

Yes.
I will not put pirated software on my comp.
I have Windows on 2 comps and Linux on 2. I personally like Linux much better, however- I have 1 application that i can not get in Linux. Thats the only reason I keep windows.
I also think its a good idea to "donate $" to the folks who make the Linux available.
yes, i think that is also a good idea, many open source software are free to download and you and your PC can "survive" with just these free softwares installed
i think developers of open-source software should improve their work to match up the expensive counterparts. not just in OS but in all PC software types.
As a reformed user of pirated software, I would say it is always better to pay for the real thing or use a free alternative (in this case linux)
Using pirated software has knock on effects throughout the software industry and also harms legitimate users. If you think of how much money and time is spent on security features to stop people pirating software if they only could spend that time on something more worhtwhile
There are those that say "I have never used pirated software" and there are those that say " I have never knowingly used pirated software"
I am certain many fall in to the latter category. As an example a friend of mine purchased a used Laptop with XP preinstalled. The seller offered a six month guarantee which on the face of it seemed quite reasonable for a used product. The guarantee expired more or less the same time as Microsoft included more updates to ensure their products were genuine. The copy of XP failed Windows Genuine Advantage WGA and all my friend was left with was a pirated copy of XP and with no comeback on the seller. This is a classic example of " I have never knowingly used pirated software" and I am certain the same or similar has happened to many others.
Then we have the "I have never used pirated software" brigade. Many have blatantly used pirated software or/and music or/and movies but they will never admit to it.
Before I submit the next part of my answer I would like to say I entirely despise software piracy.
As an exercise around two years ago I wanted to find out how easy it would be to get a fully up and running system consisting entirely of pirated software courtesy of TPB.
All were easy to find (Vista, Norton 2008, Office 2007, Roxio, Photoshop etc. etc, etc.) all fully functional and accepting updates just as purchased copies would do. Futhermore the copy of Vista was an RTM therefore clean before it gets messed around with by manufacturers prior to it being installed on their Hardware. Therefore I can only conclude it came directly from Microsoft most likely from an employee.
Microsoft state they are ever tightening up on software piracy but the truth is its easier now than its ever been. So there it is. That is why people do it
Hell I am a Linux user so what do I care
LUg.
After using Ubuntu Linux for over two years as my only operating system (I used to be a Windows user), I can’t even imagine how anyone could PAY for Windows.
Windows is inferior. It’s buggy, bloated, extremely slow, full of security holes, it’s vendor lock-down all the way (you can pay yourself sick and still will not get the functionality you might need), expensive (since Linux can be get completely free of charge – Windows can’t compete with free stuff)… The list goes on and on.
I laugh at people who use a pirated version and get caught. I always secretly hope they do. Anything after Windows XP or later, you are very likely to anyway though. That’s good. Either buy Windows or OSX, or download Linux.
