I have an Ubuntu partition on my harddrive. It is not the same as Debian. I have had both. Think of Ubuntu as a more user friendly version of the same thing.
Ubuntu has an awesome package update program that downloads and installs everything for you including all the extra packages you may need. No dependancy issues.
With the way I installed it it is mostly run via the gui (point and click), so if you’re looking to type in a lot of code or fully customize you will probably enjoy straight Debian more.
Debian and Ubuntu are based on the same kernel. They are very stable and I suspect you will have few problems.
BTW: Ubuntu found my dual processors (64bit) and all of my other hardware no problem. Another plus for Ubuntu.
Good luck!
Huh??
Ubuntu is in the Debian family of Linuxs, but is not the same as.
It might be thought of as a very customized Debian.
