Yes the download Version of SUSE Linux is free.
Windows Programs running only with a Emulator called wine.
But if you use Linux you should also use Open Source Software.
Winamp -> XMMS
Photoshop -> Gimp
Fedora core is free version of the red hat linux operating system,simmilarly suse aslo have free version of linux as well.And there are no charges for the free version.
Second as far as applications you mentioned they dont have thier linux version in the market,adobe is planning to move some apps on linux.They did it with adobe acrobat reader right now.
If you are core user of these apps then dont switch completely to linux right now,jsut dual boot to learn the system.If you are interested in linux system i.e. easy free and easily available then go for ubuntu linux.
Fedora is good and its DVD image got almost all top level applications you ever need.Search for your windows equivalent linux application at sourceforge.
Winamp>> XMMS
Photoshop>> The Gimp
Dreamweaver >>NVU
VMwareworkstaion >> Win linux
Sonic FOUNDRY >> sonic garden,etc
Hope this helps.
