No. They are using it for blackmail … ~
At this time, Linux is no threat to Microsoft.
Well, about like Coca Cola is worried about Dr. Pepper
Linux is a great OS but when Microsoft brought out Vista a few months ago, 50 million bought it for $153 or more. WHY didn"t those 50 million get LINUX for FREE?
I think that answers your question ?
I use linux all the time & haven’t used microsoft for several years, as a result I read a fair bit of literature about linux & it’s relationship to microsoft.
First of all, at the moment, linux is probably not a threat to microsoft, only a potential threat, which is a shame for all the users of microsoft. If it was a threat then you would see a great improvement in the windows operating system, not just the pretty eye candy, but the core of the OS, also the price would be driven down to an acceptable level.
However microsoft is very worried about linux (it may be an unfounded concern), this shows because microsoft is starting to rattle the sabre about patent infringements(by the way microsoft has paid out millions for it’s own infringements) , it’s been trying to buy it’s way into India & China by selling windows cheaply & giving away money.
Many governements including the Chinese, some in South America, Europe, the Antipodese and Far East among others, are bringing in or trying to bring in laws which force governement bodies to use linux & open source software, the rest of the population will tend to follow suit. India & China make up over a third of the worlds population & they are very inovative people, I think you can get a copy of windows in India for less than $1, but they are still developing linux.
Also a couple of years ago when the microsoft website was suffering from sustained denial of service attacks it turned to a linux server to protect it.
So yes microsoft is worried, but is linux a threat? I hope so it will be good for everyone.
