I was wondering if it is possible to have the choice of operating either the Windows XP or Linux OS upon startup.

yup its absolutely possible. the term refered to this is known as dual booting. install xp first. of if you have xp.., boot with a bootable linux disk and follow the installation instructions. there will be a special software included which will create a disk partition automatically. when you are done, restart and you’ll have an option before the computer starts on which os you’d like to use. its simple, easy and problem free…
Yes just read up on something called dual booting.
yes it is possible run both but not at the same time u can install both os’s u are prompted to choose one os at the start try using ubuntu
Yes, it's called dual boot. Just use a partition editing program to install Windows on one (NTFS), Linux on the other (ext3 filesystem) and swap space for Linux.
Warning: Back up your files before screwing with partitions.
Yes you can! This is called Dual booting which involves splitting the hard drive so that some of it will be used for xp and the other bit will be used for linux. read here.

yes, it is. You need to partition your hard-drive and make 2 different partitions. Install windows on one, and Linux on the other. Then you’ll be able to choose between windows and Linux at start-up.
here’s a tutorial on how to do this:

Yes it is you can install Ubuntu 8.10 within Windows using Wubi installer http://wubi-installer.org/
You keep Windows as it is, Wubi only adds an extra option to boot into Ubuntu. Wubi does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader, and does not install special drivers. It works just like any other application.
Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and if you do not like it, you can simply uninstall it as any other application.
