I’m trying to learn about programming and Windows supposedly isn’t very coder-friendly.

Yes! This is very informative regarding a dual boot (Windows& Linux)

YES BUT ONLY IF YOU PARTITION YR HARD DRIVE
YOU NEED PARTITION FOR EACH OS THAT YOU WANT TO RUN
for example
2 partitions if you want to run 2 operating systems
3 partitions if you want to run 3 operating systems
each operating system has to run in separate partition
live CDs/DVSs are not best way to run os – NOTHING IS BETTER THAN RUN OS FROM HARD DRIVE AND THERE ARE LOT OF REASONS FOR THAT
It is very possible! In fact you can use a LiveCD to actually run a Linux distribution straight from your CD or DVD drive without installing anything on your hard drive. If you want to run from the hard drive for better performance, you can easily repartition your drive (GParted is a good tool for this) and dual-boot. There’s lots of guides online for this.
For LiveCDs, Ubuntu and Knoppix are good distributions.
It’s very possible…
for example you have xp installed with 3 partition.
you just have to set 1 partition free and install it there..
don’t forget to set the MBR ( master boot record ) to linux/unix side…
then it done
i don’t recommend to use live cd even if you just wanna try it. it would make your dvdrom/cdrom work in maximum state. if you wanna set it as a server, you must install it to the harddrive, otherwise, you can’t try anything at all
