Install PHP 5.2.0 or newer, on Fasthosts Dedicated Server running Redhat Linux Enterprise 5?
We have just purchased a dedicated server from fasthosts, running Linux Redhat Enterprise 5, however our script needs PHP 5.2.0 and the version installed is 5.1.6 – Can anyone tell us how to upgrade this, i have found various things online but none seem to work. A step by step would be great. Fasthosts customer support aparently say "its out of their range of support, as per usual. very unhelpful after spending over £1,000!"
Thanks

I know this isn’t a great answer but your best bet is to cancel the payment with Fasthosts (through your credit card company) and sign up with a real hosting company.
Fasthosts are a joke, a bunch of rude amateurs with little or no technical knowledge throughout their entire company who market themselves as a large, successful and technically competent web host. Unfortunately this couldn’t be further from the truth; the reason they won’t help you install a PHP upgrade is because their technical staff simply do not know how to do it!
Chances are their "dedicated" servers are set up in such a way that you can only make changes that they want you to make (even though this would obviously negate the point of having a dedicated server), that would be completely in keeping with the way they run every other aspect of their "business".
I know they’re more expensive but someone like Rackspace would be a good alternative, their customer support and technical knowledge is excellent in my experience.
