I bought a Compaq the other day, and almost everything was fine but Vista. So I decided to look for something better. I’m going to be doing some image editing, surfing, etc. I also need multiple desktops. Any opinions on the best Linux OS for me?

Debian.

I would go too ubuntu’s website, download ubuntu live cd. From there burn it too a CD, then load the live CD on your computer without installing it first. Make sure everything works properly, and if you like it, then install it too the hard drive from the live CD.
Linux is a very good operating system BUT it requires a lot of learning to use and is not at all like Windows. Make sure all the drivers you need are in Linux.
Go to and read reviews carefully before installing

Linux is extremely limited, and you can’t install Mac OSX on a non-Mac machine, so I would just downgrade to XP, it’s the best option for what you have.
