i’m downloading the mandriva linux iso images. can i use an ipod as a usb storage device for these files?

can i use the ipod to boot the initial start up of the linux os? and secondly, what step is next for adoption as the primary os? from vista.

The .iso images generally have to be put on a CD/DVD, and there may be a different version for usb. I wouldn’t suggest using your ipod as you would have to wipe all data and possibly reformat (which would cause problems…)
Once you have the discs ready to boot from put in the first one and follow the install instructions.
*One thing to make sure of is that you have an empty partition to install it to (you can do this from windows’ disk partitioner)
Really 7 GB is enough to hold linux, but to add room for personal data more around 20-30 GB is better, depending on how much data you have.
