If Microsoft is such a huge company with all the talents, why is Windows still so insecure compared to Linux?
With all the money and resources and most importantly talents, why is the architecture and underlying technology of the Windows operating system still unchanged from the earlier days as opposed to the inherently more secure design of Linux? I’ve read lots of reviews and analysis explaining how the architecture of Windows is flawed, the way it handles processes et al, and i’m sure Richmond isn’t short of talents to address such problems, so why do they still persist?

The other reason why Windows is less secure is simply that the default installation for XP is at full administrator level so anyone can do anything with the pc once they have access ,either locally or remotely over the internet.
Microsoft have attempted to address this problem with their new Vista O/S but I’ll leave it others to comment on how well they have doen with this , or otherwise.
With Linux , however , the users only have access to their own account areas and not the system files without having to enter administrator ( or root ) level password before they can install software or update system settings. This method keeps the pc inherently safe and is something that Windows should have done years ago.
This is the main reason why Linux systems are more secure than Windows , not just the numbers.
If you want to look at numbers , there would be far greater pcs running Linux connected to the net ( eg servers and web hosting systems ) than those running Windows.
Windows is the predominant Desktop system , not the dominant Server system.
People offcourse have talents but they use it for the wrong as well as right. Windows is still on beeing run in a more popular way than linux and people are coming ut with more ways to hack or find a bug for windows. I bet if there were more users using linux they would have the same problem with tht but thanfully there isnt its just as simple as the concept of finding bugs in a internet explorer compared to mozilla or other browsers.
I love Linux and I am not too fond of Windows. However you must consider that Linux actually has more people working on it. Also Windows is the Desktop operating system for 95% of the world’s computers. So naturally people devote more time and effort to finding problems with Windows than they do with Linux.
A relatively small team patches Windows because they are paid to, many more people patch Linux because they want to.
