When you’re using windows, you can use different programs in your computer, right? Like "MS office, MS Word, Yahoo Mail, MS Excel, etc.," if I replace Windows XP with Linux OS, will these programs also be affected? Please help me. Thanks.

Most definitely!
Linux will only run applications that are compatible with Linux, so you will find that Linux will not run any Windows based applications. Some Windows apps are in fact not available for Linux – this includes the MS Office Suite.
Alternately, you will find that some applications such as Internet Explorer can be installed in Linux provided you download the Linux version of that application.
If you want to try out Linux without losing your current OS and applications, there is a solution —
Check out "Wubi" (link below).
Wubi will install a bootable version of Ubuntu Linux on your PC for evaluation, but will not delete your current OS. Basically, you can run it and even uninstall it as an application of Windows.
Good luck!
If you replace Windows with Linux, you can never use those programs. Those programs only work on windows. Basically if you replace one OS with another OS, you lose everything from your first OS. So no, you can’t. I honestly think you should stick to Windows. You don’t seem like you’re a developer, so Linux will only hinder you.
If you want to keep your Windows programs, you need to enable dual booting. That will let you keep both OSes on your computer, you’ll choose the one you want at startup. However, I only recommend that option to advanced users.
yes. they will be removed. reinstall a new os requires formating of the hard drive, and formating a hard drive will remove all files and programs stored.
reinstalling wont help either, as most programs that run in windows may not run in linux.
If you install Linux instead of Windows on a new partition, you may use some of them through WINE
If you don’t have more partitions then you’ll have to format everything and you will lose them all.
However, Linux does come packed with OpenOffice which is just like MS Office (but with some extra features MS doesn’t have) complete with Write (Word), Calc (Excel) and the like. Yahoo Messenger/Mail works under WINE on Linux (same functionality but a bit slower)
The other guys are right.
Something not to forget though are emulators like Wine that let you run .exe files and such in Linux that normally wouldn’t work. Though resource intensive programs will lag. I never looked for better emulators, but I know that they exist. My friend was able to run Photoshop smoothly on Linux.
If you’re keen on using Linux you can try using VirtualBox to run Linux from within Windows. Here the Linux will run like an application within Windows. And within Linux application window you can run Linux native applications. You can check the following link to achieve the same. Please seek an expert help.. don’t try this by yourself unless you’re ready to face any unpleasant consequences (if any).
Yes. Windows programs will not run on Linux direct. Also to replace your OS with Linux, you will need to format partitions to the ext3 file format, Linux will not boot on a Windows partition. This will remove ALL your files. If you need Windows games, stick with Windows. If you do not, everything you can do on Windows has an equivalent program in Linux, usually free. You would need to copy all documents, images and videos to a backup, install Linux, and then copy them back. You do not need to be a developer to run current versions of Linux.
