I would suggest trying Ubuntu. It is fairly user friendly, which makes it ideal for someone new to the Linux world.
Ubuntu comes in a number of ‘flavors’. Ubuntu by default uses "Gnome", which I don’t have a lot of experience in. I didn’t like it when I tried it. It is most similar to MacOS in my opinion. The other popular flavor is Kubuntu. This uses KDE instead of Gnome. This is what I use and prefer. KDE acts more Windows-like to me. In fact, you can tell it to use the same keyboard shortcuts that Windows uses [e.g. alt+F4 to close a program].
Another distribution of Linux you might try is Linux Mint. I’ve not tried it, but last I looked it seemed very interesting.
