Create a new partition,
during installation of Ubuntu, it allows you to install it on the other partition, side by side with Windows.
or you could download virtual box and install you new OS on that, so them you wont have to boot your system when you na change OS.
Yes you can
The most technical way is to create a new partition on your hard drive – it’s like slicing the hard drive in half (not literally) and keeping Windows on one while installing Linux on another. However, this is VERY difficult for beginners and can be devastating if done wrong. If you want to go about this way, which is the real way to do it and is called Dual Booting, I’d recommend speaking to a professional or really studying it before beginning. Also, back everything up on flash drives or an external hard drive.
An easier way is to install it virtually. If you’re looking into using Ubuntu, there is a special installer that installs it right inside Windows, like a normal Windows application, but it acts as if it’s on a separate partition. If you end up not liking it, it’s extremely simple to uninstall – just go to your control panel Programs and Applications list and uninstall like any program. http://wubi-installer.org/
