It sounds like you have another problem there.
You might want to try one of the free hard drive prep utilities such as those available from maxtor.com. Once you have done a low-level format on the drive try booting the XP cd again.
Oh, and make sure you have unplugged any USB drives including flash drives and memory cards before starting the install. On some newer hardware I’ve found them being "found" incorrectly by an earlier XP installation CD.
This looks like there is some non-compatible hardware on the machine.
This is the most ambiguous question I’ve ever seen. I’ll assume the computer used to have Windows on it, since most computers tend to be that way. But my assumptions will end there.
Do you know why RH doesn’t boot anymore? Is it a hardware problem? Is it software? Is "Setup is now configuring your hardware" the only message the xp boot CD gives you before going black?
It sounds almost like some part of your computer, like your hard drive, is busted.
You need to check two things.
1. Is the Windows XP CD – XPSP2?
Some of the new hardwares weren’t supported by Windows XP RTM, for which support has been added in XP SP2.
Eg. SATA Hard Disk
If you have SATA HDD or Dual Core processor and the Windows CD is Windows XP RTM, then don’t read the second point. You need to either get Windows XP Sp2 or Windows Vista.
2. There could be a chance that you have corrupted your MBR(Master Boot Record).
In that case, you need to fix up your MBR first. This is more unlikely according to me for your case, but just in case i need to inform you, i’m telling you this.
I highly hope your issue will be resolved with the first point.
u should check ur hardwares
or format ur hard drive from another pc
then try installing xp
