I have a dsl connection and a D-link router. The router is set from my windows OS so that’s not the problem. The problem i think is that i do not know to set my ethernet card or to set up a connection that my pc will recognize it.Please give some details on how to set this up

why are you using SuSE 9.3?
it was released like five years ago, so chances are it won’t properly support your hardware
try openSUSE 11.2 from http://www.novell.com/products/opensuse/
unless you have a WIRELESS network connection, openSUSE (11.2) will get you connected automatically just like Windoooooz does.
YaST (Yet another Setup Tool) can be called from the command line or using the window-based application you can call when being logged in. I will refer to the command-line-version:
- Call yast
- Select "Network Devices" on the left side, press TAB or "Right Arrow"
- Select "Network Card" on the rigth side, press ENTER
You will be presented with the available network-cards in the system. Press TAB as long as you are on the area where the device appears (can be in the area "network cards to configure" or "already configured devices" and press enter when "configure…" or "Change…" is highlighted.
- Press TAB until "Edit" is highlighted and press ENTER
On the opening page you can change the necessary settings. Best thing you can do is check the settings on your Windows machine. If the router is set up to assign IP-addresses by DHCP you just need to select "Automatic Address Setup (via DHCP)". Otherwise select "Static Address Setup" and set an IP-address and subnet mask. You can also setup the DNS and routing-settings for this card by entering the screens behind "Host name and Name Servers" and "Routing".
Hope that helps.
