Linux reviews applications open source from SUSE Mandrake Mandriva Centos Redhat Debian and more
Hi, installing any version of Linux on ur pc is pretty easy. If u have a live cd then all u need to do is boot ur computer up from it and click on install. If u have an installation cd or dvd then again u just boot up from the cd or dvd. After setup loads u r going to have to make ur partitions which is actually the hard part other wise the rest of the installation is pretty simple and automatic, just like Windows.
In ur partition setup chose to do a manual partition, if it is a clean drive then its very simple:
1.You need to create a root partition with a mount point of "/". This is the partition Linux will install on and should be about 5 to 10 GB.
2.Now you create a swap partition with a mount point of swap. The swap partition is like extra ram and u can choose its size like this, for example if u have 1 gb ram then u should make a 2gb swap drive. you just multiply by 2 the amount of ram u have to make this partition.
3.Now the remaining space on ur harddisk should also be created into a partition using the "/home" mount point. This is ur home directory and everything u install seperately and all ur documents, videos, and songs will be on it.
If u r trying to dual boot with windows then linux should set up a dual boot sequence automatically and while installing make sure u don’t delete any windows partition though if you have any extra free space u don’t want to use for windows then u can resize ur partition and give it to Linux.
The installation and configuring of your system will be automatic. The u can continue using Redhat Linux. Remember while making the partitons choose the default file system they have given, its usually ext3 or reiser but Redhat Linux could be differrent!
Good Luck and Take care!
