How is Linux (Ubuntu) different from Windows?
I’ve been considering getting Linux for a long time now, I and I need some information first. First of all, how is it different? Second, though I don’t really have any movies or pictures or music on my computer yet, I think the Windows applications like Pivot and Game Maker could get wiped off when I switch to Linux. Can I get them back? That’s all I can think of, but if you have any other info, do tell.

You don’t have to wipe Windows. You can dual-boot:

You won’t be able to run many of your Windows applications in Ubuntu. For others, you’ll need a thing called WINE. To try Ubuntu without affecting your computer, just download and burn the CD. Then boot to it. It’s what’s called a "Live" CD, meaning that you can run Ubuntu right from the CD without installing it (it’s quite slow that way, but you’ll get an idea of how it is different).
